Retrain Your Brain On Afterschool

The 8th Annual Virginia Statewide Out-of-School Time Conference will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Marriott City Center in Newport News, Virginia. This conference provides training to out-of-school time (OST) program personnel on current best practices and trends in the field of out-of-school time youth programs. We invite you to submit a proposal to present a workshop at the 2017 Conference. Our presenters are a diverse group of professionals and experts, providing an array of workshops on topics specific to the needs of OST programming and youth development.

Workshop Logistics:

All workshop presentations are 70 minutes in length. All presenters will receive one complimentary conference registration; additional presenters will need to pay the registration fee. The Marriott City Center can provide a screen, sound projection, and microphone, if needed. Each workshop room will furnish a presenter’s table on which to place your handouts and/or presentation supplies. Presenters are responsible for making copies of handouts to be distributed to workshop participants. We do not pre-register attendees for workshops; however, to assist you preparing for your session, we will provide you with the capacity of the room in which you will be presenting.

How to Submit Your Workshop Proposal:

All proposals should be submitted online by COB, Friday, July 28, 2017. Every workshop proposal will be evaluated by the Virginia Partnership for Out-of-School Time (VPOST) Leadership Council and will be notified by COB, Friday, August 11, 2017 if selected. Proposals must include:

  • A description of the workshop
  • A session outline, including timeline for the 70 minute session
  • Clearly stated goals
  • Relevance to selected strand
  • Effective mix of group interaction
  • Presentation of information, and group discussion
  • Presentation reflects the conference theme

Information Required for Application:

  • Your name and contact information   
  • Name and contact information of co-presenter                          
  • Workshop Title
  • Workshop Topic Strand                                                                              
  • Workshop Description (150 words or less)                                             
  • Workshop Timeline        
  • Room Set-Up:   Theatre, Classroom, or Action                                                            
  • AV Needs:   Screen for projections, Podium and/or microphone, Sound hook-up for computer

Please note, VPOST will provide all laptops and/or LCD projectors. Wi-Fi will be available to all presenters and conference attendees. If selected to present, all presentations should be emailed with a Power Point presentation or Final Outline due to VPOST by September 8, 2017. All presentations will be uploaded to the VPOST website after the conference for attendees to reference.
