The Cambridge Steam Initiative (@cambmasteam) expands math excellence and equity through promoting diverse applications of math concepts, hands-on learning and joyful math experiences. This summer, they are inviting young people to submit short films that answer the question, "Where’s the Math in That?"![]()

They are interested in all the ways that estimating, counting, averaging, dividing, and multiplying shows up in daily life. From simple concepts to complex formulas, we want to know how math touches you and the people around you. All levels of filmmakers and formats welcome!![]()

Submissions will be curated by a group of youth advisors and a compilation reel will be screened in mid-September.

VPOST has returned from the Virginia School Boards Association Conference in Virginia Beach, where we hosted a 4-round mini-workshop, "Beyond the Bell: How Afterschool Drives Student Impact Success and District Impact". The keynote speaker, Dr. Phil Gore, challenged school board members to build greater trust in their communities by truly listening to what parents and families want, and that message resonated deeply with the work we do. ![]()

We connected to that vision by sharing that afterschool programming is popular among parents and enjoys strong bipartisan support, making it a natural space to build stronger community connections. We also dug into funding streams at the national, state, and local levels by sharing real examples of how local education agencies (LEAs) are leveraging them to expand opportunity. Grateful for the chance to engage with school leaders committed to student success!
